Memories
Memory by Melanie Long Sep 15, 2010 I want to share a couple of memories about my dear, sweet father in law.
On our wedding day, Dad danced with me. As we danced, he told me, "Never forget what attracted you to Bill in the first place...that is the key to a lasting marriage." To this day, I keep that shared wisdom in the forefront of my mind throughout good times and bad.
Bill used to call Dad, "Uncle Dad" and I thought that was hilarious. So, I stole the line from Bill and began calling Dad, "Uncle Dad". Bob Long thought that was great, even funnier than when Bill called him that term of endearment.
Being the great driver that I am: A number of years ago, Dad came to visit. I had to run a few errands, so I hopped in the car and forgot that Dad's car was right behind me. I slammed right into his car!Fortunately, the only damage was the license plate frame broke off. I told Dad what happened (I was so nervous and felt awful). Dad smiled and said, "I'll tell you what I always told Mary and the kids - don't sweat the small stuff." He never said another word about it. Bob was always generous and kind. Memory by Heather Long Sep 15, 2010 Before I left for college, grandpa took me to lunch. He told me I could talk to him about anything I wasn't comfortable sharing with my parents. I love my grandpa, and I love the relationship we were able to have. As long as I live, I will never forget that sorta awkward lunch. Memory by Margo & Adam Sep 14, 2010 Bob with one O, spelled the same frontwards and backwards, will best be remembered for his wit and little one-liners! Our family gatherings will never be the same. Bob was a very loving man and dearly loved his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
