In Remembrance of Nate Dogg

19 August, 1969 ~ 15 March, 2011
Long Beach, CA, United States

Message from Simon Raybould:

" Memorial to Nate Dogg. "

Biography

Nathaniel Dwayne Hale (August 19, 1969 – March 15, 2011), better known by his stage name Nate Dogg, was an American musician.

Life and career: Nate Dogg was born in Long Beach, California. He was the friend and partner in the rap game with rappers Snoop Dogg, Warren G, RBX, Daz Dillinger and was the cousin of Butch Cassidy and Lil' ˝ Dead. He began singing as a child in the New Hope Baptist Church in Long Beach, and at Life Line Baptist Church in Clarksdale, Mississippi, where his father (Daniel Lee Hale) was a pastor.

At the age of 16 he dropped out of high school in Long Beach, California and left home to join the United States Marine Corps,[1] serving for three years.

Nate, Snoop Dogg and Warren G, who all belonged to the Rollin 20 Crips gang formed a rap trio called 213, which recorded its first demo in the back of the famed V.I.P record store in Long Beach. The demo was later heard by Dr. Dre at a house party, who was impressed with Nate's soulful voice.

Nate Dogg made his debut on The Chronic. Singing in what later become his trademark style, he was well-received by fans and critics alike, and would go on to sign with Death Row Records in 1993. Nate Dogg was also featured on Mista Grimm's "Indosmoke" with Warren G. Then in 1994 he produced his first hit single "Regulate" with Warren G. Nate Dogg was also featured in many Tupac releases, including his collaboration record Thug Life: Volume I. In 1998, after a tumultuous time at Death Row Records, he released another album. The double album was titled G-Funk Classics Vol. 1 & 2 and was followed up in late 2001 with Music & Me on Elektra Records. Music & Me peaked at number three on the Billboard hip-hop charts in 2001.

In 2002, Nate Dogg appeared on a celebrity episode of the Weakest Link, making it to the last three players before being eliminated by Xzibit and Young MC.

Nate Dogg was arrested in Arizona in April 2002 and was charged with firearms and drug offenses. He pleaded guilty in May 2002 and was subsequently sentenced to probation and community service. He was also ordered to attend drug counseling sessions.
Nate was generally more successful in collaborations with other hip-hop artists. As of 2004, Nate Dogg has featured in and contributed to over 40 chart singles.

After a number of delays and an original release date of April 2004, his self-titled album Nate Dogg was released on Affiliated Entertainment Group on June 3, 2008.

Stroke and health

On December 19, 2007, he suffered a stroke, according to a coordinator for his recently formed gospel choir, Innate Praise. Initial media reports suggested he had been admitted to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center in Pomona, California after suffering a heart attack.

Erica Beckwith told MTV News that Nate Dogg had been released on December 26 after being treated for a stroke and had been admitted to a medical-rehab facility to assist him in his recovery. In January 2008, it was officially reported that the stroke had rendered the left side of his body paralyzed. Doctors believed there would be a full recovery, and his voice was not affected. In September 2008, Nate suffered a second stroke. Warren G later confirmed that since the second stroke, Nate was undergoing physical therapy in an attempt to return to some normality, but it was unclear whether Nate would be able to resume his singing career.

Death

Nate Dogg died on March 15, 2011 in Long Beach, California. In 2007, Nate Dogg had a massive stroke, and another stroke in 2008, however it is unknown if that contributed to his death.[12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20] Tributes poured in from collaborators such as Ludacris and The Game, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Dat Nigga Daz, Xzibit, Erykah Badu, Dave Chappelle, Murs and Big Pooh.

mrahaman on January 25, 2009 This is turning into a love story I love it and I am 47 yrs old. reosans: 1. It may not be a laugh a minute, but it's real in real world sense. As a professional who is not self employed, many times I find myself in awkward situations and while they may not be like this, I am sure that this is very common. 2. My 9 year old daughter loves it.. Laila is a good role model for her. 3. My daughter is excited and just can't wait to see teh next episode.. every week. She loves obvious idea of Amar & Riyaan in love and it does not have all the vulgarity that you see in typical hollywood sitcoms. Just goes to show that you don't have to see lips lock or bedroom scenes to make a nice romantic and funny TV sitcom.M. Zakir Rahaman

I pray I don't offend in my thoughts. This hit like a ton of bricks. Seeing I graduated in 1992, this man was apart of my "heydays". I'll always be a 90's era music lover. I was born and raised in Compton, California, so you know the whole Death Row/G-Funk era was embedded in me. I think of how young we all were as people. When you're a teen, early to mid 20's you just think you'll stay young forever. The 30s and 40s just seem waaaay away. We promise to smoke weed till the day we die, smoke weed everyday, Hennesy, the fast life but eventually if Allah allows us to see more days, it will catch up. Now no one knows how he passed but his immediates and that includes me so I'm not passing judgement but food for thought. Life is fast and quick. I wonder if he listened to the songs he made back in the 90's and if he approved of them now. The mind of a 41 yr old is way different than one of a 21 yr old. Make no mistake they were hits and songs we will never forget but, once again time flew. I pray that Nate Dogg grew in his walk with Allah. And I hope I make it to see Nate Dogg in Heaven as well when it's my time. And respect to all the artists he knew alive still and much love to the family, friends, and the world. One love, Salaam

Everytime I would hear Regulate I always turn it up and sing along with Nate on his lines. His sound was so unique and pure, it was gangsta rap but full of soul. Never be another like him.

Memory by London Alexandre   Mar 20, 2011
my first memory was hearing nate when i was 8 years old on the chronic and the effect that had on me still works itself today; im of colombian descent but no matter what backround you from, this mans voice could touch your soul. from the moment i bought my first nate album at 11 (ghetto preacher) i knew he would be my all time favourite artist. when my little brother and uncle were killed in 02', the only thing that stopped me losing life completely was "my world", "never leave me alone" and "why". this mans music raised me, when my mother and father was inside, this mans music kept me straight. im not gonna lie nate, ive shed more than a few over the last week, and theyll always be a drop of liquor in the corner of my eye when i think of you. you were more than music, you gave a fucked up kid some hope in life, and ill always love you for that. rest in peace, say hi to my brother for me, and my boys court and juan. thanks for the memories amigo, boa sorte.

Memory by DP   Mar 18, 2011
I knew and worked with Nate for a short time a long time ago. While directing "Lil Ghetto Boy" the platinum single from Dr.Dre's "The Chronic", The only time I've ever seen Nate dogg nervous, was on the first take of his performance in "Lil Ghetto Boy" Where he ironically expressed interest in Directing a Chior. (His first time in front of the camera). For the first 30 seconds of the first take, he was a wreck! After he took a look at the monitor and saw that his suit fit better than he thought, He smiled, and never looked Back! Rest in peace Dogg Pound Gangsta!

I relate you voice and mode to an era of my life I hold so dear, back when I started puffin hydro and sippin liquor your melodies stopes a lot of wild things from happening and made other wild things som much more enjoyable...... One of my fondest memories is having my teenage girlfriend strip and then get bent over to the likes of "area code" then "shake that" followed by a grand finale of "REGULATORS"...... It's now up to the likes of Dre to keep your spirit alive through our ears! We will miss you solider! RIP
